At certain checkposts, you may be asked to produce your identity proofs like Aadhar card. Please keep a copy of your Aadhar card ready (for each individual travelling in the car).

You MUST opt for the new highway rather than the old route, which has sharp turns and makes driving risky. Here is a step-by-step guide to the route:
Start in Jammu: You will start your journey in Jammu, a major city in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Follow NH44: From Jammu, take the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) toward Katra. This is the most direct and common route to Katra from Jammu.
Drive toward Nagrota: Follow the NH44 through the Nagrota bypass. Continue on this highway toward Katra.
Pass through Udhampur Bypass: You will bypass Udhampur as you head towards Katra. The road is well-maintained, and the drive is smooth.
Reach Katra: Once you pass through Udhampur, continue on NH44 until you reach Katra. As you approach Katra, you may see signage directing you to the town.
Arrive in Katra: Upon reaching Katra, you can park your car in designated parking lots available near the base camp and start your pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi Shrine.
